It files collection lawsuits as outside counsel, for banks, credit unions, auto lenders, and debt buyers, and its best-documented debt-buyer client is the Cavalry family, Cavalry SPV I and Cavalry Portfolio Services, which hold charged-off accounts that started with names like Citibank, Capital One, and Synchrony.
So read the caption on your summons and find the plaintiff. If it's Cavalry SPV I or another debt buyer, the case runs on debt-buyer rules, and the first question is whether the plaintiff can prove it owns your account at all, through every hand it passed, with admissible evidence. If the plaintiff is a bank or credit union, it's an original-creditor case, and the records and the numbers still have to be proven the legal way.

Use the thirty days
From the day you're served, you generally have thirty days to file a written response with the court. If nothing gets filed, the plaintiff can ask for an automatic judgment against you (called a default judgment), and with a judgment they can levy your bank account, meaning they take the money directly, garnish your wages if you have a job, or put a lien on your house. Responding is what makes everything above matter, because a defended case is where the proof gets tested.
